AI POLICY
Iwata Godo has established this Basic Policy on the Use of AI ("this Policy") and will continue to strengthen its governance framework for the use of AI.
(Please refer to Iwata Godo's Privacy Policy for matters concerning the handling of personal information.)
Ⅰ. Basic Principles
Iwata Godo regards AI as a supplementary tool for legal practice and aims to use it to provide more timely and appropriate legal services. Under this Policy, all final legal judgments and advice are made by attorneys, and AI is used solely to assist in improving operational efficiency.
Iwata Godo further regards compliance with attorneys' duty of confidentiality and the protection of clients' confidential information as top priorities. Confidential information may be input only into secure AI systems approved by Iwata Godo.
Ⅱ. Purpose and Scope of Use
The purpose and scope of the use of AI are limited to reasonable and supplemental tasks, and AI is not used directly for core decision-making functions, such as providing legal advice or determining litigation strategy. Any outputs and analytical results generated by AI are used solely as reference materials, and attorneys independently review and evaluate such materials before incorporating them into their final judgements.
Ⅲ. Confidentiality and Information Security
Clients' confidential information and case information requiring confidentiality may be input only into secure AI systems approved by Iwata Godo, and tools with insufficient security verification are not used. Furthermore, AI is used only in environments where input data is not utilized for model training. AI is not used if its use is deemed inappropriate.
Ⅳ. Handling of AI Outputs and Responsibility
AI outputs are for reference purposes only and are used only after attorneys have thoroughly reviewed and verified their content. All legal opinions and documents ultimately provided to clients are prepared under the responsibility of attorneys, who bear final responsibility for their accuracy and quality, regardless of whether AI is used.
Ⅴ. Third-Party Rights and Legal Compliance
Iwata Godo respects the rights of third parties in its use of AI and complies with applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines.
Ⅵ. Opt-Out
If a client does not wish AI to be used in a particular matter, Iwata Godo will not use AI in that matter upon the client's prior request.
Ⅶ. Governance and Internal Systems
Iwata Godo has established internal rules and regulations for the appropriate use of AI and ensures compliance with this Policy through training and internal awareness efforts for attorneys and staff.
Ⅷ. Review of this Policy
Iwata Godo reviews this Policy as appropriate in response to changes in social conditions, technological developments, amendments to applicable laws and regulations, and other relevant circumstances. If this Policy is revised, the updated version will be published as appropriate.
